MODEL OVERVIEW

Convenience

Adept at multitasking.

We designed Escape to make your life easier. It starts with available Intelligent Access with push-button start. You want to carry lots of cargo? No problem. The rear seats fold to provide up to 68 cu. ft. of cargo capacity. Accessing the rear of the vehicle is also a breeze, thanks to an available hands-free, foot-activated liftgate. And to help you while slowly backing up the vehicle, a rearview camera is standard and a Reverse Sensing System is available.

Cargo Capacity

Fold both rear seat backs for a flat load surface and 68 cu. ft. of total cargo space behind the front seats. Or fold down either of the 60/40 split rear seat backs and still have room for a passenger. If you're carrying items such as luggage, leave both seat backs up and you'll have 34 cu. ft. of cargo space. For more space, available roof rack side rails with available crossbars let you carry more cargo, especially items that don't transport easily inside the vehicle.

60/40 Split-Fold-Flat Rear Seat Backs

Fold both rear seat backs for a flat load surface and 68 cu. ft. of total cargo space. Or fold down either of the 60/40 split rear seat backs and still save room for a passenger. If you're carrying items such as luggage, leave both seat backs up and you'll have 34 cu. ft. of cargo space.

Hands-Free, Foot-Activated Liftgate

Thanks to the hands-free, foot-activated liftgate, there's no need to fumble for keys. Its hands-free operation is especially helpful when your arms are full of items like grocery bags. With the Intelligent Access key in your pocket or purse, kick your foot under the bumper and the liftgate opens. You can also adjust the liftgate height, helpful for lower overhangs. Standard on Titanium model.

Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start

Simply have the Intelligent Access key in your pocket or purse, then touch the door handle. Once inside, press the brake pedal and then the start button. Shift into gear and go. Standard in Titanium model.

Center Console with Convenient Media Bin

The media bin, located in the center console, provides a great place to put your essential smaller items.

Standard Rear View Camera

Put the gear selector in Reverse and the rear view camera automatically transmits the image of what's behind your vehicle to your screen when you're slowly backing up.

Reverse Sensing System

While slowly backing up, you'll hear a series of beeps if you near an object. The closer you get to the object, the faster the beeps. Standard on SEL and Titanium models.

Capability

Escape lets you do what you want to do.

The Ford Escape is a capable SUV. It has versatile seating/cargo combinations. And it's engineered to deliver the performance your lifestyle requires. Depending on the model you choose, you have a 2.5L I-4 with intake variable cam design, a 1.5L turbocharged EcoBoost®   engine, or a 2.0L Twin-Scroll EcoBoost® rated at 245 horsepower. Handling control comes courtesy of standard AdvanceTrac®  with Roll Stability Control,  Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control. For added traction, there's available Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive System, And if you need to tow, the 2.0L EcoBoost® Class II Trailer Tow Package provides a maximum tow rating of up to 3,500 lbs.

Three-Engine Lineup

Choose the Escape model that matches your driving style: the Escape S and 165-hp 2.5L I-4 with intake variable cam timing (i-VCT); the SE or SEL, powered by the 1.5L EcoBoost® for balanced power and efficiency;* and the 245-hp 2.0L EcoBoost® with Twin- Scroll technology that gathers exhaust from pairs of cylinders in alternating sequence, maximizing pulse energy to the turbine wheel for quick torque delivery. The six-speed SelectShift® transmission offers the convenience of an automatic or the sporty feel of a manual. Plus, EcoBoost® engines feature Auto Start-Stop Technology that helps lower fuel consumption and vehicle emissions during city driving.

Intelligent 4WD System

The available Intelligent 4WD System continuously monitors traction and road conditions every 16 milliseconds. It can transfer torque from front wheels to rear wheels as needed to ensure a precise blend of handling and traction at all times.

Maximum 3,500-lb. Towing Capacity

Escape Titanium has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. when equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost®  Class II Trailer Tow Package. This package is also available on Escape SE and SEL with the 1.5L EcoBoost® engine for a maximum 2,000-lb. rating. Trailer sway control technology, auxiliary transmission oil cooler and paddle shifters are included in the package. When trailer sway is detected, the system automatically takes measures, such as applying precise braking or reduced engine torque, to help keep both the vehicle and the trailer under control.

Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control

Curve Control can sense if you're going too fast and slow the vehicle down using throttle reduction and anti-lock braking. Once you're into the curve, G-forces tend to transfer more traction to the outside tires than to the inside ones. Torque Vectoring Control enhances this traction by transferring torque to the wheels that have the most grip, reducing understeer and forcing the front end to hug the inside of the curve.

AdvanceTrac®  with Roll Stability Control

Standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control (RSC®) uses two gyroscopic sensors to monitor yaw and roll rates. This allows AdvanceTrac® with RSC® to help you maintain control whenever it detects wheelslip, understeer, oversteer or roll motion. It also helps maintain control in various road conditions such as ice, gravel or rain. AdvanceTrac® with RSC® also features Curve Control, which will slow the vehicle down when it senses that it's going too fast for a particular curve. Trailer Sway Control is also included in the Class II Trailer Tow Prep Package.

Six-Speed Automatic Transmission with SelectShift®

This versatile six-speed SelectShift® transmission offers the convenience of automatic operation. But when you shift into Sport mode, you get the sporty feel and control of a manual, but without the clutch.

Technology

Escape makes it so easy.

You could say Escape is one smart SUV. It has a number of driver-assist features that make driving easier. It includes available features such as the Safe and Smart Package, SYNC®  3 and FordPass, BLIS®  (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support, and Enhanced Active Park Assist.

SYNC® 3

SYNC® 3 is our easy-to-use, responsive voice-activated technology with Wi-Fi® Hotspot connectivity. Experience the capacitive touchscreen with impressive responsiveness. Locate your favorite restaurants with simple destination entry via the available navigation. You'll also find a sleek user-friendly interface to help you connect to and control your smartphone. SYNC® 3 also brings you the power of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility to your Ford.

Ford Safe and Smart Package

After using the driver-convenience features in the Ford Safe and Smart Package, you'll never know how you got along without them.

  • Driver-activated front rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Auto high-beam headlamps
  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Lane-Keeping System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support

BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert

The Ford Safe and Smart Package includes BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert. This feature uses radar to identify a vehicle detected in your blind spot and alerts you with an indicator light in the appropriate exterior mirror. Cross-Traffic Alert also uses radar to watch for traffic behind you as you're slowly backing out of a parking spot or driveway. If cross-traffic sensors detect a vehicle approaching from up to 15 yards away, you will be audibly and visually alerted.

Lane-Keeping System

The Ford Safe and Smart Package includes the driver-activated Lane-Keeping System, which can alert you to unintentional lane drifting.10  Choose the Lane-Keeping Alert mode that vibrates the steering wheel when you drift too close to a lane marker — or the Lane-Keeping Aid mode that activates a directional steering torque to help guide you back to the center of the lane. Or combine the effects of both modes: Continue drifting after the steering torque is activated and the steering wheel adds the vibrating sensation.

Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support

The Ford Safe and Smart Package includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support. You can select the speed and distance you want to maintain from the vehicle in front of you. When traffic ahead slows down, your vehicle automatically slows down, and later resumes the preset speed when traffic clears. Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support can alert you to a potential collision with the vehicle ahead. If you don't react in time, the brakes will precharge and increase sensitivity, providing full responsiveness when you brake.

Enhanced Active Park Assist

Available Enhanced Active Park Assist is designed to help you park in a variety of situations.10 With minimal actions on your part, Escape virtually steers itself into or out of a parking spot.

  • Parallel Parking scans for an appropriate space, signals when one is found, then helps steer you into the space.
  • Park-Out Assist provides instructions on shifting and moving forward/back to help steer you out of a tight spot.
  • Reverse Perpendicular Parking finds a suitable space and helps you back in.
  • Side Sensing System emits a warning when you get too close to an object on either side of your vehicle.

NHTSA 5-Star Crash Rating

Escape is equipped with features to help you maintain control, as well as to help protect you in the event of a collision:

  • AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control) includes Curve Control, and is designed to slow you down when it senses you're going too fast for a particular curve.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System alerts you when your tires are underinflated (not available on spare tire).
  • Personal Safety System includes dual-stage driver- and front-passenger airbags, a driver's knee airbag, and front seat-mounted side airbags. There's also the Safety Canopy System with two-row side-curtain airbags.
